Lyrics for audition, chorus and leads:

I can see clearly now the Rain has gone

I can see clearly now the rain is gone
I can see all obstacles in my way
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind

It’s gonna be a bright (bright)
Bright (bright) sunshiny day
It’s gonna be a bright (bright)
Bright (bright) sunshiny day

Oh, yes I can make it now the pain is gone
All of the bad feelings have disappeared
Here is that rainbow I’ve been praying for

It’s gonna be a bright (bright)
Bright (bright) sunshiny day

look all around, there’s nothing but blue skies
Look straight ahead, there’s nothing but blue skies

I can see clearly now the rain is gone
I can see all obstacles in my way
Here is that rainbow I’ve been praying for

It’s gonna be a bright (bright)
Bright (bright) sunshiny day
It’s gonna be a bright (bright)
Bright (bright) sunshiny day

Reach out, I’ll be there

Dance audition/workshop for all.

Now if you feel that you can’t go on
Because all of your hope is gone
And your life is filled with much confusion
Until happiness is just an illusion
And your world around is crumblin’ down
Darling, reach out, come on girl, reach on out for me
Reach out, reach out for me
I’ll be there, with a love that will shelter you
I’ll be there, with a love that will see you through

When you feel lost and about to give up
‘Cause your best just ain’t good enough
And you feel the world has grown cold
And you’re drifting out all on your own
And you need a hand to hold
Darling, reach out, come on girl, reach out for me
Reach out, reach out for me
I’ll be there, to love and comfort you
And I’ll be there, to cherish and care for you
I’ll be there, with a love that will see you through
I’ll be there to love and comfort you

Murder by Misadventure

Murder By MisadventureDirector: Dave Crossfield

by: Edward Taylor

Playing dates: 6th November – 11th November 2023

Further Audition date: Sunday 9nd July at 2pm

A few people were unable to make the first audition on 2nd July so a second audition will be held on Sunday 9th July at 2pm. All welcome to attend before the final casting takes place.

Synopsis…Despite their success as TV thriller writers, Harold Kent has become dissatisfied with Paul Riggs, his
writing partner, and wants to dissolve their association. Riggs, however, knows that he would not survive as a writer without Harold and threatens to blackmail him if the partnership is ended. In order to escape this impasse, Harold conspires with his wife, Emma, to kill Riggs, using a plot from a projected script, Murder by Misadventure, as his inspiration. The plan goes smoothly… or does it?

Complications ensue, not least when the Kents are visited by the persistent and perceptive Inspector Egan, and the plotters are in for some nasty surprises… Laughs, thrills and mind-boggling twists abound in this ingenious thriller which played at the Vaudeville Theatre in London in 1992 with a cast including Gerald Harper and William Gaunt.

“It has a last-scene denouement which turns every available table, until you are left giddy with bewilderment…” Evening Standard

Sheila's Island

SHEILA’S ISLAND BY TIM FIRTH

Playing dates:  20-25 MAY 2024

Audition date: 22 OCTOBER 2023 at 10:00 AM

This brilliant new comedy presents four fantastic roles for women, playing ages 40-55.

Brief synopsis

Four executives from the Pennine Mineral Water Ltd are Team C in the company’s annual team-building exercise.  Sheila has been voted as Captain and, using her cryptic crossword solving skills, she has stranded the girls on an island in the Lake District.  It’s foggy, they are wet and cold and their only mobile phone has run out of battery.  How do you make a rescue flag with a plastic plate and a toasting fork?  What is Julie’s husband really up to in Aldi?  And why are they on this bloody team building exercise when they could be at a spa?

Roles

Sheila’s capable attitude has led her to being voted Captain of the team.  As always, she takes her responsibilities very seriously, endeavouring to keep up her team’s morale in trying circumstances.

Denise doesn’t do camping, and she’s determined to make everyone else as miserable as she is.  Her caustic wit tries the patience of all her team members.

Julie believes in always being prepared, and seems to have bought up everything in the camping shop, some of which comes in very handy!  Her happy demeanour is destroyed when Denise pours doubt on the faithfulness of her husband.

Fay is a gentle and thoughtful person.  She has recently been off work following a nervous breakdown, and Sheila worries that their situation has triggered a melt-down.  But Fay has inner reserves!

We will also need to record a voice for the DJ of a passing pleasure cruise.  Let me know if you are interested.

Sheila's Island Audition Form

Pressure

Pressure by David Haig

Playing dates:  15-20 April 2024

Audition date: Sunday 5th November at 10:00 AM at the theatre.

Rehearsals will start in late February.

This is the true story of the lead up to the D Day landings of June 1944.

General Eisenhower is under pressure – he knows he will have only one chance to invade, and failure will cost thousands of lives. He needs the right weather – but will it be the high pressure he needs, or low pressure that will bring disaster?

Eisenhower brings in the Met Office’s chief meteorologist, James Stagg, who is under pressure himself – his wife is expecting their second child any day and her first confinement was touch and go.

This is a gripping thriller for those who do not know what happened, and a fascinating explanation of events for those that do.

Most of the characters in this excellent piece were real people but characterisation will be more important than looking like the actual person.

Characters (with approximate playing ages):

James Stagg (40-50) – a dour Scot. This is a mayor lead role – Stagg is on stage for most of the play.

General Dwight Eisenhower (50-60) – the man who must decide the outcome of the war. On the surface he has great confidence but with a legendary temper and also a softer side too. Another major lead role.

Kay Summersby (30-45) – Eisenhower’s driver & confidante. Calm, kind and level headed – it is Kay that persuades Eisenhower to trust Stagg. Another major lead role.

Andrew Carter (25-60) – Stagg’s chief assistant with total belief in his boss. He can either be played as a young man or older man who remains young at heart.

Colonel Irving Krick (US chief meteorologist) (30-50) – brash, confident but ultimately admits he is wrong with good grace.

Sir Trafford Leigh-Mallory, Air Chief Marshall (50-70) – calm and purposeful.

Admiral Sir ‘Bertie’ Ramsay (50-70) -calm and purposeful.

General ‘Tooey’ Spaatz, US Air Force (50-70) – forceful.

2 Naval meteorologists (25-60). These 2 actors will covers the lines for Captain Johns as well as all the meteorologists in the script.

Electrician (60-70) – he is only on 1 page but he never stops talking while setting up additional telephones for Stagg. This is lovely cameo that can be doubled with one of the C in Cs.

THE TALISMAN THEATRE Diversity Statement for Auditions

“If you audition for plays at The Talisman Theatre you will be cast on ability and suitability for a role, regardless of ethnicity. The only exceptions will be where a particular ethnicity is clearly logical or expressly specified by the author. This has always been so in relation to disability and sexuality and this remains the case. We will also seek opportunities to be creative in casting, for example, changing the gender of a role where an auditionee is the best choice, and where this is coherent within the context of the play. (Please note, occasionally Authors and/or Rightsholders refuse permission for this.)”
